Football season is always an exciting time at CFHS. Coach Mark Morris has been coaching 25 years and is looking forward to what our guys can do.

“Players have worked really hard and have played well together in J.V.,” commented Coach Morris.

After losing four coaches last spring, Coach Morris welcomed five new coaches this fall: Mike Gallagher, Chris Byrd, Tim Karst, Trevor George, Norman Quick. I was able to catch up with two of the new coaches.

Coach Tim Karst and his family moved from Conway and attended Conway High School. In high school, Karst played offensive lineman on the football team, graduating in 2003.

“Back in March, I was thrilled to get a call from Coach Morris when he offered me an opportunity to come to Carolina Forest and coach with him,” stated Coach Karst. “This season I am most excited to see the fruits of our labor put in by the football players and coaches in the summertime.”

Karst then accepted the offer and moved from Conway to Carolina Forest. He has two girls who both attend Carolina Forest Elementary.

Coach Chris Byrd is from Bluefield Virginia. He attended Graham High School where he played on  the football team as a defensive lineman. Byrd retired as a teacher from the Federal Bureau of Prisons in May of 2017 and has coached football for seven years.

“I love watching these young players grow to love the game of football and more importantly assisting in imparting life lessons gained from this great game. I am excited to work with these fine, young men. I feel we have the potential for a great season in both JV and Varsity,” shared Coach Byrd.

Welcome to The Forest, Coaches!
