Trends of the Past

Trends+of+the+Past

There’s no denying that history repeats itself when it comes to fashion; everybody loves the classics. As you take a look around campus, it’s clear to see that decade-old trends make up the clothes of today’s style that everyone loves. Listed below are the top five clothing crazes of the past that seem to have been worn the most within the past six months:

  1. Denim Jackets

Gaining fame in the mid 1970’s, denim jackets never really lost popularity in iconic fashion looks. Because the jackets are great for layering, it’s no wonder why these fundamental accessories may always be around.

  1. Scrunchies

Often worn as a bracelet more than a hair accessory, many teenage girls seem to be going crazy for                                                                                                                scrunchies. Popular in the 80’s and now a huge hit for any outfit, scrunchies are a great basic.

  1. Not-Skinny Jeans

Prior to this year, the last time flared jeans were as popular was the 70’s. In addition to the spark in popularity of flared jeans, boyfriend style jeans have also made a comeback in fashion. Their loose fit is quite a contrast to the super skinny jeans that tend to be worn.

  1. Chokers

The tight necklaces have been making their re-appearance in many forms. Something is a little different this time around, they are no longer just a gothic staple. They are now popular because of their wide range of styles with many color options.

  1. Quirky Eyewear

Although we are a while away from summer, it is already clear to see that large and fun-shaped sunglasses are being vastly worn again. Rounded lenses and heart shaped frames seem to be favored the most. The fashionableness of the glasses never entirely went away, but they are now as popular as they were in the ‘80s.

The cause for the rise to fame of the retro fashion trends remains a mystery. It could probably be accredited to old movies that sport these looks, movies like “The Breakfast Club” and “Pretty in Pink;” both of which are increasingly watched on Netflix. Whatever the reason for the comeback, people are loving the trends and they are here to stay.
