Millions of people around the world play tons of video games.  According to the Pew Research Center, more than eight-in-ten teens say they have a game console at home, and 90% say they play video games. Unfortunately, many of them involve violence. Six-in-ten adults feel that the amount of violence in video games contributes to the deviant behaviors in our society today.

One example of a violent game is Fortnite Battle Royale. Fortnite was created in 2017 by Epic games. It has several different modes that gamers can play including solo, duo, squads, team rumble and creative. 

There are many people in the world who like Fortnite.  

Harryanna Bellamy, a freshman, states, “What I like most about Fortnite is the skins that you can unlock. Other video games I like are 2k20  because I can relate to that game because I use to play basketball.”

Solo is a game mode in which you play alone against 99-100 different players and try to be the last man standing. Duos is a game mode in which you and a partner try to be the last ones standing. Squads is a mode in which you either team up with two or three people and be the last ones standing. 

Team rumble is a mode in which there are two teams of 20, and they both try to eliminate as many players as they can. When someone gets killed, they automatically respawn until that team gets the required number of kills. Lastly, creative is a mode when you go to the Battle Royale Island and practice and play/scrimmage with your friends.

Despite Fortnite proving itself to be a household name in the gaming world, some feel there are better games available.  

Abigail Pond, a freshman, shares, “I play video games, but I don’t like Fortnite. I just feel like it’s one of those games that are popular because people make it known, not because it’s good. 

Personally, what I like about Fortnite is that the game involves more than killing. Even though the main concept is killing your opponents, there is a lot more to the game than killing. You could be spending time with your friends / family members or even learn something that you might not have known.

According to Gamesradar.com, there are 250 million registered players for Fortnite. 

Unlike most popular online games, Fortnite offers players the chance to make use of multiple player skills, which most of them are optional. Fortnite Battle Royale is also a pretty good stealth game, allowing players to creep their way into the end-game without firing a shot (Polygon.com).

With this game, there are several pros and cons. Some pros include bonding with your friends and giving you something to do when we’re out of school (like right now because of the coronavirus). Some cons include being addicted and being involved in too much violence.

Despite a good bit of violence being involved in Fortnite Battle Royale, it has several pros and cons that make the game more interesting. Another good thing about Fortnite is that it gives people something to do when we are home quarantined.
