The Super Bowl, one of the most streamed sporting events that everyone looks forward to every year, made its way into millions of homes on Sunday, February 11, 2024. Super Bowl LVIII was played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. With a final score of 25-22, the Chiefs reign victorious as this is their sixth time in a Super Bowl and their fourth time coming out as champs. According to The New York Times, Super Bowl LVll is the most expensive Super Bowl in Super Bowl history with the location being in Las Vegas and the budget for the halftime show being extravagant.
The Super Bowl this year was one to remember with its always exciting halftime show, unique commercials, celebrity appearances, and a very close game.
The 2024 Super Bowl will go down as the longest Super Bowl ever played in NFL history. At the end of the 4th quarter, the Chiefs and 49ers were tied 19-19, causing them to have to play in overtime where the Chiefs ended up getting ahead in the game and winning. The final playing time of the game ended up being 74 minutes and 57 seconds, including the added overtime.
Junior Jonathan Ortiz stated, “ This game had a lot of surprises. I never knew who would score and lead the game next. It was a very tight game the whole time; I was surprised when it went into overtime and the Chiefs ended up winning.”
Every year the Super Bowl is always a good place to find celebrities. This year the list of celebrities included, but was not limited to,Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Lana Del Ray, Labron James, Khloe Kardashian, Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, Gwen Stefani, and Miles Teller
Commercials are always a fan-favorite part of watching the Super Bowl. It costs roughly $7 million for 30 seconds of ad time, and this year, there were almost 60 commercials played. The“Wicked” movie starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo dropped its first-ever trailer and special look of this new film during the Super Bowl this year which got people talking. A few other notable commercials that were popular during this Super Bowl were the Dunkin “Dunkings” ad, featuring Tom Brady, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck, Beyonce’s Verizon Ad in which she announced the future drop of her album “Renaissance Act ll” and Micheal Cera’s CeraVe ad where he promoted the company with the play on words with his last name.
This year’s halftime show was one to remember. The headliner for the show was Usher with H.E.R., will.i.am, Ludacris and Lil John performing throughout as well. He also brought out Alicia Keys as a special guest. The halftime show was eight songs long with multiple costume changes. One of the most impressive numbers in the show was when Usher changed into roller skates behind the stage in less than 90 seconds and then rolled out onstage and continued to perform out-of-breath numbers for another five minutes.
Senior Amanda Markey said, “ When I watched the halftime show I thought it was good but not the best halftime show ever. I saw a lot of people online either hating on the performance or loving it. I especially loved when he brought out Alicia Keys.”
This year’s Super Bowl was full of surprises and will be a Super Bowl to remember.
