What do Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter, Jellyroll, Bon Jovi, and Chappell Roan all have in common? Besides being musical artists, each singer debuted at least one song this past summer that shot to the top of the charts, streaming all summer long
From country, to rock, to hyper-pop, the music industry not only filled our summer days with good vibes but also diversified our playlists in a way that may bring new meaning to the songs of summer! The past few months were filled with new and upcoming artists, along with already well-known artists from the past making their music come back with new top hits.
Over the past few sweltering summers since the pandemic, no song has summed up the summer as a whole. In the years before the pandemic, songs like “In My Feelings” by Drake and the collaboration song “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus dominated our summers and became songs that everyone knew, whether they were in your favorite genre or not.
The summer of 2024 brought back the term “song of summer,” but instead of just one song summing up the summer as a whole, multiple albums from popular artists of all different genres became our favorites over the past few months. There were older artists like Eminem and his new hit album The Death of Slim Shady, along with Sabrina Carpenter making her music comeback with her popular singles, “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.” These releases have dominated the top 10 Billboard over the last few weeks of the summer months.
Many people who have usually just stuck to their favorite genre have been exposed to a whole new era of music with different collaborations from famous singers and crossover pieces that have taken the world by storm.
Junior Gatlin Pasco shared, “My favorite new song this summer was “American Nights” by Zach Bryan.”
Another student, Ella-Grier Chapman, a freshman here at CF stated that she “loved the new Billie Eilish album called Hit Me Hard and Soft!”
While these artists come from two entirely different genres, they both made a significant impact in the music industry over the past few months.
Sophomore William Jiang declared, “An album that I found myself liking this summer that is usually outside of my music taste was We Don’t Trust You by Future and Metro Boomin.”
With the summer months ending and the beginning of fall being right around the corner, many wonder what is in store for the music industry now. Many of the artists who have released new music recently are beginning to start their tour season in the next few months. Look out for your favorite artist’s new shows and be on the lookout for what’s coming next!
