Boy’s volleyball is growing in population by the year with numbers for high school players reaching 77,287. With Carolina Forest High School having only started a boys program three years ago, the team is working on fine-tuning their skills and learning how to work together cohesively. Carolina Forest has only recently added to the numbers by starting both varsity and junior teams.
Last season the team went 33-4 and placed second overall in the state. However, four varsity players graduated, leaving seven returning players to carry on their high expectations. This season varsity has 14 players.
Caleb Harrison, a senior, stated, “Our goal is to improve on previous seasons and win the state championship. We also seek to prepare young varsity and JV players to continue the program’s success.”
The varsity team consists of four seniors. These players are seen as the leaders for the rest of the team (excluding the team captains) to all of the newer, younger guys on the team.
“My returning players need to be leaders, but also we are going to need some of the newer players to step up in order to get back to the state title game. If we are able to do that, we may be able to finish the job and win our first state championship,” stated Coach Chase Alfman.
This season began on August 18 and the boys currently hold a record of 23-3. The boys went 4-1 in their most recent tournament on September 14. Their next home game is this Thursday, September 19. Come out to support our Panthers!
