In a world where every person is unique, twins and triplets share a special connection that captivates researchers, family, and friends alike. Whether identical or fraternal (do not look alike), they navigate the world with a built-in companion, experiencing life’s milestones side-by-side.
Twins and triplets are super special because they share so many things, from their appearance to their habits. Sometimes, it can even seem like they know what the other is thinking. Carolina Forest High School is home to a vast group of twins and triplets.
Fraternal twins Brooke and Lauryn Interdonati are juniorsat our school.
“Having a twin is cool because I have a built-in friend, but it can be annoying having someone that does the same things as you. Sometimes we’ll say the same thing at the same time which is pretty cool!” says Lauryn.
Brooke added, “Being a twin is hard sometimes but it can also be fun. You always have someone with you to keep you company or to get annoyed, plus you basically get two wardrobes!”
Having twins or triplets can be fun but also a lot of work. They often share a special bond and can be very close friends. They might like playing the same games, wearing matching clothes, or even having the same hobbies. But just like all brothers and sisters, they can also have their own unique personalities and interests.
Eric Goss, a senior who has triplet sisters, shares,“Stella and Olivia are identical and both have curly hair, I can tell the difference because Stella has tighter curls and Olivia will let me pick her up. Victoria is easy to tell apart from the rest of them because she is fraternal.”
According to Academia.edu, twins occur in about 1 in every 250 births, while triplets are much rarer, occurring in about 1 in every 10,000 births. Interestingly, identical twins have the same DNA but do not share identical fingerprints. Research shows that twins can communicate with each other before birth, interacting and touching in the womb.
There is also a theory about “twin telepathy,” suggesting that twins can sense each other’s feelings or thoughts even when apart, though this remains unproven.
Factors like genetics, the mother’s age, and diet might influence the likelihood of having twins or triplets. Twins and triplets bring a lot of curiosity and wonder, making them a special topic to learn about.
Junior Lexi Wohlers. who is an identical twin, stated, “Being a twin is like having a best friend and a bully in one. I like being a twin because people don’t know the difference, and we can say it was just the other one.”
Twins and triplets are a special part of many families, bringing double or triple the joy and excitement. They fascinate both the scientific community and society. They provide a unique perspective on life and highlight how cool families can be!
