Every year many people choose to celebrate Thanksgiving in many different ways. Many people have certain traditions that they cherish and practice every year. Traditions can range from a variety of different things, such as specific food being cooked, traveling, turkey trots, sporting events, and more.
Thanksgiving can interpreted differently for people.
Senior Ryleigh Wakefield, stated, “Thanksgiving means reaching into your mind and pausing for a moment to reflect on what you are thankful for, as we don’t think about it enough.”
Math teacher Kaycee Baransky stated how she loves Thanksgiving and welcoming family to her home.
“Being the one to “host” Thanksgiving is an honor that is always passed down to the oldest daughter, and my mom passed down the hosting role to me two years ago. So now I get to host dinner at my house for my family every year!”
Thanksgiving is a time for traditions. People have certain traditions they celebrate.
Senior Nick Heath shared that his favorite Thanksgiving tradition is “getting together with family, eating good food and watching a lot of football.”
Every year on the weekend after Thanksgiving the annual Palmetto Bowl is played. The Palmetto Bowl is the rivalry football game between Clemson University and University of South Carolina. This year the game will be held on November 30 at Death Valley Stadium in Clemson.
“I love going to the game every year because I am a huge Carolina fan, and I love watching it in person. I look forward to this every Thanksgiving because it ends my Thanksgiving break right,” senior Cara Skinner stated.
Another thing people do to celebrate Thanksgiving are turkey trots. Turkey trots are typically held on Thanksgiving morning and with a large group of people. During the turkey trots, people run a long distance with their friends and family.
“It is fun to be with my community on Thanksgiving and all run together. I also love running that morning knowing that I am running off all the good food I’m about to eat later that day,” junior AnnaKate Hamilton stated.
Sadly, Thanksgiving gets pushed to the side because so many people get caught up with Christmas. Thanksgiving is a time for being thankful for the people and things you have. It’s time to appreciate the things that we love and enjoy on this special day named Thanksgiving.
