As the holiday season rolls around and the winter weather settles, many find it the perfect time to travel with family and friends. No matter where one lives, there are festive getaways just for them. For those of us who live in the Myrtle Beach area, here are some of the best places to get away during the holidays, where adventure, relaxation, and seasonal cheer await.
1. Charleston
In Charleston, South Carolina, there are several places and events to attend involving the holidays.
One of such is the Holiday Festival of Lights at James Island County Park. It goes from November 15, 2024 to December 31, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Pam Harrington Exclusives blog has more detail as to what the event entails.
A few of these activities include marshmallow roasting, festival train rides, the amazing dancing light display, and an enchanted walking trail.
Another event in Charleston is the Fields Farm Christmas Market at Fields Farm at 3075 River Road, Johns Island. It is, according to Pam Harrington Exclusives blog, “your go-to destination for everything festive—from Christmas trees and stocking stuffers to decorative poinsettias, firewood, and, most importantly, wholesome, healthy eating options.”
2. Myrtle Beach
If you’re looking for holiday events closer to home, The Dunes Village Resort provides detailed information about the many events inside of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Some of these options are theater shows such as the Carolina Opry’s annual Christmas show, marking its 39th season this year. Among other live performances, there are several other excellent options such as the Alabama Theater, Pirate’s Voyage, and Medieval Times.
Furthermore, there is the Night of a Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens. It’s a beautiful stroll through nature, which includes “more than 2,800 hand-lit candles and more sparkling holiday lights than you can count,” according to The Dunes Village Resort.
The Coral Beach Blog lists thirty other events to partake in during the holiday season. Among them is an event which takes place down by the boardwalk called Winter Wonderland at the Beach.
3. Charlotte, North Carolina
For those who enjoy going out of state, the Light The Knights Festival in Charlotte is the best place to go. It goes on from November 27 to January 3. When purchasing tickets, it’s best to purchase in advance with this event due to its limited capacity.
The official website for the Charlotte Knights states, “There is no guarantee there will be all activity tickets available the day of your chosen date.”
The website also lists the activities available to do at the festival such as ice skating, snow tubing, and holiday treats.
A blog, Charlotte On The Cheap, notes that the festival will even host the New Year’s Eve fireworks, adding to the excitement and seasonal cheer for the holidays.
Overall, there are plenty of events and activities nearby and out of state to celebrate.
