Every year the Shriners host a highly competitive, highly viewed game of football where the best forty-four players in North and South Carolina play against each other. The game is to be held on December 21 at Spartanburg High School. This year’s teams were released in early October. There was a singular player selected in Horry County: Christian Huynh.
Huynh is a senior at Carolina Forest High School and a key member of our football team. A varsity player for three years, he has made a name for himself through his efforts. Huynh found out he was selected to represent South Carolina during October.
Huynh said, “I was happy my coach put me in a position to represent and get more eyes on the school, and I was confident that I could be the guy to do that.”
After being introduced to playing football in seventh grade, Huynh knew he found his passion. Although he mainly played basketball when he was younger, the football team made him feel at home.
“Once I became a part of the offensive line, everyone was so welcoming. Being in a position like that where you don’t get any stats, makes you really learn to love the game for how it is,” stated Huynh.
The offensive line is what made the game worth it for Huynh. He was not originally an offensive lineman but was switched in his sophomore year. He gives the offensive line and his coaches a lot of credit for his success and drive.
Just recently, the names were announced for region players. As many could have guessed, Christian Huynh found his name on the list. Huynh was named the best lineman in the lower state.
“I was shocked because I know a lot of guys in the lower state who get a lot more looks and attention than I do, but I was excited and surprised,” said Huynh.
Carolina Forest wishes Christian the best of luck this upcoming weekend while representing South Carolina!
