Our basketball teams are off to a great start! Competing in the Class 5A region, they are in the beginning of their region games.
Our girls basketball team consists of 11 girls, including three team captains. Currently, the girls have a record of 15-3. Last year, the girls placed second in the region. Over our winter break the girls competed in two different tournaments: the Carvers Bay Holiday Tournament and the HTC Waccamaw Invitational. The Carvers Bay tournament was held December 27, 28, and 30, while the Waccamaw Invitational was held January 2 – 4. They went 2-1 in the first tournament and 3-0 in the most recent tournament.
“Our goal for the season is to be region champs and make it to states. Our team is really experienced. We have four returners who know the ropes of varsity so I feel confident that we can make it happen,” said
one of the team captains, Meaja Dozier-Edwards.
The boys team consists of 13 boys, two of which are team captains. Their record is currently 10-3. Carolina Forest held the Panther Classic here at Carolina Forest High. This tournament for the boys was held January 2-4. Our boys team went 1-2 during the tournament.
“Goals for this season are definitely to win the region and win state which we have worked hard to accomplish since last June,” stated senior player, Carter Cooley ““I think this team is very special. The chemistry we have built and continue to build on is unlike any team I have ever played with before. I couldn’t ask for a better group of guys to share the court with for my last year.”
Both the boys and girls have eight confirmed games left in their seasons. They do have the opportunity to get more games based on their standings in the region. The playoff games start on February 17. The overall goal for both teams is to make it further in the playoffs and hopefully win states.
