The 58th Super Bowl took place on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025 between the Eagles vs. Chiefs. The Eagles took home the win with the final score of 22-40.
The Chiefs did not play their best this game. Many people were disappointed in Patrick Mahomes’ performance. The Eagles sacked Mahomes six times, the most of his career. Up 10-0 after Jake Elliott’s 48-yard field goal, Sweat and Jalyx Hunt sacked Mahomes on consecutive plays. Mahomes then rolled out and made an inaccurate throw that was picked by Cooper DeJean, who returned it 38 yards for a 17-0 lead. A.J. Brown for a 12-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter for a 24-0 Eagles lead, and then his 46-yard pass to DeVonta Smith late in the third quarter sealed the victory by extending the lead to 34 points.
Freshman Brielle Barnes, who is an Eagles fan, commented, “I am from Philly so the Eagles winning was such a great feeling since we have been in the Super Bowl before for a bit now, and we finally won! I just love rooting for my team and seeing the team’s cheerleaders and dancers. I have been dancing and cheering for awhile now and I love seeing the many options of things I can pursue.”
David Lovette, a PE teacher, is a Chiefs fan.
When asked if he was surprised by the game, Lovette stated, “Not that they won but that they dominated the Chiefs.”
This year’s halftime show included Kendrick Lamar, Samuel L. Jackson, Mustard, SZA, and Serena Williams. Many people liked the overall theme of this year’s halftime message. Conspiracy theory rumors say the stage was set up as a playstation controller to show the different stages ending with the “X” button to the world being gone as in “game over.” Another rumor has, the backup dancers were dressed as the American flag that was split in half on stage to represent The Nation is divided.
Brandyn Raber, our RBHS counselor, shared, “I heard it was good, and that the performers did a good job subtly calling out some social injustices currently existing in our society.”
Everyone’s hard work and determination does not go unseen. Despite the game not reaching its full potential it is still a memorable night of football.
