In Horry County, we honor our teachers and their hard work as much as possible. Each year, each school in Horry County votes on a Teacher of the Year. The idea of Rookie Teacher of the Year was launched in 2020. This award recognizes the outstanding work as a new educator who has shown exceptional dedication throughout their first three years of teaching. This year our Rookie Teacher of the Year is Mr. Brogan Will.
Mr. Will has been teaching at Carolina Forest for two years. He teaches our AP Human Geography class. He is an alumni of CFHS (Class of 2018) and also a Teacher Cadet during his senior year. Being a Teacher Cadet is something that has helped shape him into the teacher he is today!
Will shared, “Winning this award feels incredibly rewarding and encourages me to keep striving for excellence in my teaching. It’s a wonderful recognition of the hard work that goes into connecting with students and making geography come alive.”
Rookie Teacher of the Year school honorees are nominated by their school principals and colleagues for their professionalism in providing quality instruction and meeting the needs of all students.
After someone is chosen at the school level, they then compete against other teachers in the county. Five finalists will be chosen from school nominees, and the HCS Rookie Teacher of the Year is recognized in May.
Will expressed, “ My favorite thing about teaching is the students. Watching them make connections between their own lives and the geography around them. It’s inspiring to help them understand that geography is not just a subject, but a lens through which they can view the world.”
One of his freshman students, Grant Monday, shared, “He has helped ease me into a new learning environment and made me super comfortable in the AP Human Geography classroom. He prioritizes positive interactions with his students that makes them feel more comfortable asking questions, which helps them learn new things.
Mr. Will’s favorite hobbies are reading, going to the beach, and spending time with his friends and family. He has a pet cat named Fox. Will also played lacrosse when he was a student at CF, and now he coaches JV lacrosse.
We hope that Mr. WIll enjoys his year as our CFHS Rookie Teacher of the Year, wishing him all the best in the next level of the competition. Once again, congratulations!
