Prom is around the corner at Carolina Forest High School! As most know, prom can be quite pricey, (including the ticket, dress, tuxedo, professional photographers, hair, makeup, nails, shoes, and spray tan/ tanning bed). Most of these things are extra, but before you go get all of these things, think about a budget.
Prom dresses average around $250, plus alterations. Dresses, tuxedos, and accessories can all be extremely overpriced for no reason at all. For some people, they only spent a little bit under $200, but for others, they spent over $700. Junior Isabella Rivera, has spent $650 on all of her prom attire, while Junior Lexi Wohlers has only spent $80 on attire.
The price for food and tickets can be outrageous, depending on where you go. Since prom is already so expensive, maybe going out to a cheaper fast food restaurant is the better option.
People have been saying a lot about the ticket price for this year’s prom: $75 through March 9, but it then increases to $90 from March 10 – 30, with a final increase to $100 from March 31 – April 11. Many people don’t think they’ve thought about everything that goes along with the venue. The venue this year is bigger so it is more expensive. The amount of food also increases the cost.
Professional photography can be really expensive. Most professionals charge you per hour from $200-$400. Many people get someone close to get their family to take pictures for them.
For some people, a lot of their prom money goes towards nails, hair, makeup, and sometimes self-tanning.
On the average, a set of acrylic nails are $75, gel nails are usually $35, and for you to get your toes done that’s about $30. Professional hair stylists charge an estimated $50-100. Makeup can usually be cheap, but if you hire someone it can also be $50-100.
Prom is an expensive event that takes place once a year, but students look forward to prom year-round.
Nareiya Barresi, a junior, shared, “I think prom will be very fun and a great experience but I don’t think we should spend this much money on only about three hours.”
Prom prices can be considerable, with costs spanning from attire and accessories to venue and transportation. Thoughtful planning and budgeting can help manage these expenses and create a lasting memory for such a special night.
