Did you know that some games are beneficial for the brain? Many times, parents believe that children spend too much time playing games on electronics, and it causes an unhealthy obsession. There is a solution; just download games that are enjoyable but still beneficial.
According to “coolmaterial.com,” the following games are considered beneficial; Peak, Good Sudoku, Blackbox, Vocabulary Builder, Elevate, and Luminosity.
Peak is a unique platform that offers 40 plus unique games. Good Sudoku can help improve problem solving and decision making. Blackbox is a game where you can face off against deceptively simple brain teasers and puzzles in the form of minigames. Vocabulary builder is a simple but effective app to help build your vocabulary. Elevate is one of the top contenders among games that can help make your brain stronger. You can find over 30 cognitive games as well as a calendar and other tracking things. Lastly, luminosity is one of the most popular brain training games. This is more of a set program but it’s easy to follow.
There are, however, some downsides. AACP.org states that too much screen time can lead to sleep problems, lower grades in school, mood problems, fear of missing out, and less time spending quality time with friends and family.
Trinity Yurcak Farah, a senior, stated, “I play 2048 about five hours a week.”
When asked if it’s beneficial to play games, Farah added, “Yes, some games I do think are beneficial because they make you think and some might use brain work and thinking.”
Depending on the game, some might be more beneficial than others. According to reidhealth.com a person should limit themself to less than two hours per day being on your phone or playing games electronically.
Another senior, Penelope Price, stated,“I don’t think it’s beneficial because it can be addictive and can distract you from the outside world. The lights from the screen can also affect your vision.”
Price plays about 30 minutes to an hour per week.
I really think that playing games can be stress relieving but too much can get bad. I normally play Block Blast!, a Tetris-inspired puzzle game that challenges my mind. I normally spend two hours a day playing it.
Despite the fun and excitement that app games offer, it is good to balance enjoyment with moderation.
