It’s spring sports season! At Carolina Forest High School we have many amazing activities including baseball, softball, boy’s tennis, boy’s golf, boys and girls lacrosse, track and field, and boys and girls soccer. Baseball is a popular sport here at CFHS and with a second year head coach this season, they are off to a great start!
Wayne Riser is the head coach for varsity baseball. Riser has been a head coach for 29 seasons and has coached 650 wins at the collegiate level. Coach Riser started his coaching career at Shepherd University. In his 22 years at Shepherd University, he achieved 512 wins and is the all-time coach that has won the most games in any sport at Shepherd University.
There are 14 athletes on this team, and only three of them are seniors: Hayden Soles (outfield), Jalen Collins (third baseman), and Mark Allen (outfield).
This season there are 20 games and two tournaments: Pee Dee Invitational and SAB Tournament. So far into this season there have been four games. As of March 15, they have won three of those four games so far.
Junior Parker Reavis states he has been playing since tee-ball and has continued to play because he loves the competitiveness. Reavis is a second baseman and a pitcher for varsity baseball.
“Meeting the friends I have grown up to know throughout the years while playing baseball has been my favorite part of the sport,” shared Reavis.
This team of high school athletes know what it takes to make a team. Friendships on the field and off are important to all of these student-athletes. All of these student-athletes worked hard for their spots and work even harder now to keep them.
High school athletes are the definition of hardworking. Between classes, practice, games or meets, the athletes figure out that they are capable of considering how they balance school and sports. Our CFHS Varsity Baseball team enjoys playing the game they love together. Best of luck for the rest of the season!
