“Off They Go” (tribute poem to my brothers)
My blood far away,
I wish he could stay
When opportunities arise,
I know his choices will stay wise
Not always the best example
But the more I look the more I see,
Someone who is quite painfully me
We share many similarities,
But he is the one who looks most different to me
Six feet tall,
I always felt so small
Someone I will always look up to
I will always feel blue
But without further ado
Onto brother two,
Often silent times
In our short car rides
About to be off for college,
I know the choices are swallowing him
Always impressed by his athletic ability
My other brothers look up to him,
But I have a different reason within
Someone who used to be so different,
Not always the most literate
Overall I will miss him,
His silence an absence,
Soon to be leaving me
Now onto brother three,
The youngest of us all,
Somehow still tall
A change from the little boy I once knew,
His ignorance leaves me without a clue
Off he will queue,
Into a game, he must do
He doesn’t apply himself
He makes me mad
He disrespects everyone
But I know he is probably sad,
When I’m off soon,
I wonder if he’ll be thinking the same way I do
