Your first day of high school can bring so many emotions and thoughts: What will I wear? How is my first impression going to look to others? Will I fit in? To be clear, high school is not the same as what you see in “High School Musical”!
High school has different impacts on everyone. Students should never compare themselves to other students. These are the years students must focus on themselves and what they want their future to be. Even though the reality of high school may not meet their personal expectations, students need to make the most out of these four years!
During middle school, many students form expectations on what they thought high school was going to be like. After a survey was published and sent to students, some freshmen volunteered to share their experience so far at Carolina Forest High School.
“I expected my first year to be fun and be able to do new activities like going to football games and meeting new people,” Logan Marino stated. “I think this school has met my expectations. Lunch is great because you can be with everybody, but the lack of activities makes it less fun.”
Carolina Forest holds more students than other schools, so the campus is known for its buildings and add-ons. Being in this school for the first time can make you nervous by seeing how big it is. But, once you know your classes, those houses are the only ones you need to focus on.
Elyse Marie Cox shared, “I expected to struggle finding my way around, but I found my way around by day two. I thought the first day experience would be like in the TV shows or movies, but it was the opposite. But this school year has been so far so good.”
“I expected my first day of high school to be stressful; like I was going to get lost or be late.” Emery Pride stated. “This school was the opposite of my expectations. I thought it was going to be awful, but it really wasn’t that bad. This school year has been time consuming, but also fun.”
As expressed, freshmen year will vary for everybody. High school will never be as picture perfect as it is in the movies, but it is a chance to make a fresh start and to start thinking; “What am I going to be?” These years are opportunities to figure out what students want to succeed in and find dreams they never thought about doing. High school is full of open doors to choose from, academically and personally. These years count; make the most out of it!
