Carolina Forest High School has many teachers who shine in the eyes of students, other teachers, and staff, and they deserve to be highlighted for their impact on their students and overall school community. Brogan Will, who teaches freshman AP Human Geography in C House, has been teaching for two years and is a Carolina Forest Alumni Class of 2018.
Will loves to participate in many activities; he contributes heavily to the Carolina Forest High School community and is loved by his co-workers.
Justin Foxworth, who teaches AP European History in C House, commented, “His students come in with an excellent work ethic, high level writing skills, but more importantly, a willingness to engage with the material on a social level through thought provoking conversations and discussions. I love collaboration with Mr. Will as 90% of our collaboration is about sports and life; 10% is academic. Mr. Will is an excellent teacher and has the skills and knowledge of a teacher who’s done the job for ten plus years. There’s not much advice I need to give him.”
Will participated in the pie in the face challenge during lunch last year and also won the inflatable costume race between teachers during last year’s pep rally.
“Getting pied in the face was definitely messy but a lot of fun! The students seemed to enjoy it way more than I did, but it was all worth it for the laughs and school spirit. Winning the inflatable costume race was also a blast; it’s not every day you get to sprint across the football field in an oversized pirate panda suit with everyone cheering you on. The energy from the crowd was awesome. I will defend my title!!!”
During the last two years at CFHS, Will has also quickly developed into a student favorite with the majority of his previous students saying he had an immeasurable impact on their high school experience. Many of those students also showed outpoured appreciation for Will’s impact on how they view Carolina Forest and attending school as a whole.
Sophomore Noah Pettijohn stated, “Mr. Will was a great teacher that made learning fun and guided me towards getting a 5 on my AP Exam. He always had the best real life connections for what we were learning about and always had his best interest in our success.”
Sophomore Mya Tolliver also commented, “He was a very good teacher, and I really enjoyed his class! It was well-structured and enjoyable as well as just well-taught. We did a lot of fun activities and projects as well as regular notetaking, and there wasn’t very much busywork. It was a great class!”
Will is not only a student favorite because of how much fun his class is for students but also because of how successful his students are on the AP exam. He participated in a fun challenge with his students regarding the AP Human Geography exam last school year. Will’s students challenged him that they could beat the previous years classes AP exam pass rate of 91.3%. If they did so, Will would have to participate in the Paqui One Chip Challenge, the eating of the world’s hottest chip. Spoiler alert! The students won the bet! Last year his students passed the AP Exam at a 98.6% rate, which was well above the average of 56.1%!
Sophomore Cooper Moore expressed, “Mr. Will introduced me to AP style classes as he was my first AP teacher, and he was an amazing teacher to have for AP Human Geography. He talked to us a lot, explained things really well, and made class fun. I never once dreaded going to his class first thing in the morning since he’s such a great teacher, and he absolutely deserved the Rookie Teacher of the Year Award.”
Mr. Will’s impact on Carolina Forest High School comes in many different ways. He also coaches JV Girls Lacrosse in the spring, a sport that he participated in while at CFHS. Through his passion for teaching, he has shown that one educator can truly change countless lives.
