Over the past four decades, “Freaky Friday” has been a popular story to watch on film. It is based on a 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers. Disney has produced multiple movie adaptations since 1976. Since the 2003 version, this story has been iconic. Friday just got even freakier when “Freakier Friday” came out on August 8, 2025.
In “Freakier Friday,” the sequel features a “quadruple swap” involving Anna, her daughter Harper, Anna’s future husband Eric, and her future stepdaughter, Chloe. This time, it’s even bigger than mother and daughter; it comes with new twists and turns, and hilarious concepts.
According to Rotton Tomatoes, the film received a 73% score from critics and a 94% audience score. It was praised for being fun and a “worthwhile watch due to humor, nostalgia, and the performances of returning starts Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. Many viewers found it better than the original.
The film was also filled with references to the original movie and other Lindsay Lohan films, like “Mean Girls.”
Alexis Allen, an English teacher at CFHS, is a huge Disney fan and loves the “Freaky Friday” films.
“My favorite part is the end where Anna and her mother Tess finally come to an understanding of each other and start to appreciate the other’s presence within their lives. It has two memorable performances by Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsey Lohan. Love them both, but I also really love the relatable plot like the dynamics between the mother and daughter. I had a rough period during my teen years with my mom and I’s relationship but we came out of it the best of friends. So I just relate to that whole scenario and I really like the movie because of that,” shared Allen.
It is the best thing to watch a movie that is relatable to your own life. It gives you a different kind of connection to help understand themes.
I personally feel that “Freakier Friday” is a great movie because it shows the connection between the four main characters and how their perspectives change at the end of the movie. My favorite part of the movie is when they all switch lives and realize how hard it is to be in the other’s shoes. It is a family-friendly and fun movie for everyone.
