Everyday – Movie Review
March 12, 2018
While I usually read a book before watching the movie, I was pleasantly surprised when Everyday was an amazing exception.
Following one of my best friends into the movie theater on February 24, I almost dropped my Monster and chocolate almonds because of her excessive dancing. She had read most of the book and couldn’t wait to see the screen adaptation. We decided to see the movie a day after it premiered, which happened to be on my birthday.
I kept regretting not buying tickets for Black Panther instead; I enjoy action, superhero, and sci-fi movies as I don’t usually watch romance movies or dramas. However, it was a good decision to keep my tickets for Everyday.
Everyday’s cast stars Angourie Rice, Debby Ryan, and a total of fifteen different actors for the role of A, the soul-wandering entity. Rice’s character, Rhiannon, encounters A during her time at school.
This Young Adult drama isn’t a typical girl-meets-guy and they fall in love after one glance like a Hallmark movie. There’s a central theme of learning to love what you want and letting go of the things you think you love or hate based on society. There aren’t too many cliches, such as love-at-first-sight, and while I think they could’ve delved into Rhiannon’s home life a little more, everything was pretty great.
The acting in the movie was phenomenal, and the movie itself was intriguing, While I dislike many romantic films, this one was worth the watch. It may not be Black Panther; however, it was a great film and the messages of love and acceptance it portrayed were clear.
