What You May Not Know About CFHS’s Prom Night

When it comes to planning for prom, we begin with getting with the Junior Class Student Council Representatives to discuss their vision for prom. We allow them to choose the theme and decorations. This year they wanted to do something different—Mardi Gras.

We already had the Marina Inn reserved, giving them a deposit a year ago. The advantage of using the Marina Inn is that it holds all the students we have attending prom (currently 575), and it is so easy to decorate because of how beautiful/elegant it is on the inside.  What most people do not know is how expensive it is to rent a place.  During the past five years, the cheapest venue found in Horry County began at $12,500.  This price does not include the cost of the DJ, photo booth, decorations, or prom favors. This is the reason the prom tickets cost so much.  We are currently looking at other locations for next year but are having a hard time finding somewhere nice enough for prom and will hold as many students that we have attending.

Once the theme has been decided, we order the decorations that the juniors have picked.  Once all the decorations have been put together, Mr. Roddy donates the band trailer to get it all to the Marina Inn the day of prom. The day of prom, Ms. Perry and I will be on campus until after lunch, handing out tickets and answering any questions. Ms. Bane and the rest of prom committee will go straight to the Marina Inn that morning to start decorating.

As for security, we normally have multiple officers onsite to make sure students are safe, along with all of our administration and teachers.

We’re excited for Thursday night and hope everyone has a great time!
