Day of Prom: Quick Fixes

Day of Prom: Quick Fixes

Makayla Doyle, Writer

“Oh no! I have a big zit on my forehead!” … a nightmare we all may face on prom day. For our big night, numerous things can go wrong. Here are some tips and tricks to maintain the perfect image on that special night:

To zap pimples:

  • Create a mixture of cinnamon and honey, apply to face for 10-15 minutes and wipe off with a warm, damp rag.
  • Wash face with warm water and soap, then allow face to dry for 5 minutes. Squeeze lemon juice into a bowl and rub on affected area. Allow to dry for 20 minutes before rinsing off.
  • Wash face with mildly warm water and allow to partially dry. Cut a small potato into thin slices, rub a slice on pimple for 10-12 minutes and cleanse face with water again.

Tanning overload:

  • Apply an alcohol-free moisturizer to area and bathe with baking soda for at least 20 minutes.
  • Soak a cloth in apple cider vinegar for 5 minutes, then gently rub on burnt area for 2-3 minutes. When dry, apply coconut oil everywhere the vinegar was applied.
  • Last resort:  wear a turtleneck and long pants.

Fading lipstick and concealer:

  • Lipstick- hold a thin piece of paper (tissue or normal paper) up to lips and lightly dust on a translucent setting powder
  • Concealer- run a skin-colored powder everywhere the concealer is fading

Falling eyelashes:

  • Bring extra eyelash glue in purse, apply glue to lashes and wait for glue to slightly dry. When tacky, re-apply lash to eyelid. Quickly run a thin coat of mascara through  the lash to ensure it will stay.

Razor burn/ rash:

  • Apply either hydrocortisone cream or witch hazel cream to rash, leave for 10 minutes to reduce color and bumps.
  • Rub a small amount of aloe vera gel onto burn and let soak into skin.
  • Apply a small amount of tea tree oil to rash and allow to soak in before wiping skin gently with a damp rag.

No more bags!

  • Dampen and slightly freeze a spoon for at least an hour. Remove the spoon from freezer and tap under-eyes for 5-10 minutes to reduce puffiness.
  • Softly tap fingertips under-eyes for 2-3 minutes to reduce swelling.

Oily hair:

  • Dab 2-3 paper-towels on most oily section of hair to absorb the shine.
  • Massage a small amount of hand sanitizer into hair roots.
  • Pour a generous amount of baby powder into hair roots; massage hair for 5 minutes to soften the powder’s color and reduce shine.

For your brows:

  • Too light: Run a slightly darker eyebrow pencil through the brows until desired color.
  • Too dark: Run a translucent powder over the brows to lighten the hairs.
  • Won’t stay in place: Apply a clear mascara to the brows to hold them in place all night.
