Ready Player One – Movie Review
April 24, 2018
Back at it again with the chocolate almonds and Monster energy drink!
Sitting next to rowdy 20-year-olds, I put my 3D glasses over my normal ones to enjoy the movie Ready Player One. The movie had just come out on March 29, and I had my ticket ready the very next day. Directed by Steven Spielberg, this movie was definitely worth the price of sitting next to acne-covered men.
The science fiction movie stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Lena Waithe, Simon Pegg, Hannah John-Kamen, Mark Rylance and Ben Mendelsohn as the cast. Sheridan’s character, Wade Watts, finds he feels at home in the virtual world of OASIS and that nothing could go wrong. Cooke’s character, Art3mis, disagrees.
In their journey to find the Easter Egg that the creator of OASIS left behind, they meet opposition in the form of Mendelsohn’s character, Sorrento, and his army. Whoever finds the egg first gains control of the entire virtual community and a hefty amount of money.
While I don’t play video games as much as I used to, I was surprised to see that there were references from old Atari games to the ones we play on the Xbox now. Personally, I would love to enter this virtual world because of all the references they depicted in each clip; Back to the Future, Sonic the Hedgehog, Tomb Raider, Street Fighter, Tron, Akira and dozens more!
The animation when the characters are sucked into this entirely new world is phenomenal, and the character designs are gorgeous. The obstacles that they have to solve to get to the Easter Egg are innovating and clever, and it was such a wonderful way to bring the characters to life.
I would definitely recommend this movie if you have a love for video games and action sequences. Level up and buy a ticket now!
