Coached by Gregory Williams and Kevin McCarey, our Carolina Forest Ultimate Frisbee team has made a huge accomplishment this season. Over the weekend of May 19-20, they competed in the Palmetto State Youth Championships. After the round-robin portion of the tournament, Carolina Forest was 5-1 with our only loss, with a score of 7-8, against A.C. Flora who won State 2 out of the past three years. This resulted in a truly odd situation with Flora, Dreher, and Carolina Forest all at 5-1 with each one losing to each other. Carolina Forest then moved into a semi-final bracket situation where the team handled Dutch Fork 7-1 before facing A.C. Flora for the final. Our Carolina Forest Ultimate Frisbee team rebounded well from the earlier loss and defeated them 7-1 for the State Championship!

This is a huge accomplishment for this group. Head Coach Gregory Williams shared how the team came about and how proud he is of the group.

“This team has been a labor of love for several years. We started with only five people playing small games around CF once a week for fun. This grew to be a recreational group of between 30-40 people each week in the fall. Now, for our spring travel team, we have around 20 who commit to two-hour practices, three days-a-week from January through May and travel around the Southeast to compete in tournaments. It is fantastic to see that effort rewarded with a State Championship this year. It is even sweeter following the past two years where we have finished 2nd and 3rd. They are a fantastic group of oddballs, athletes, and leaders, and Coach McCarey and I are beyond proud of them.”

This is a group  that has been working toward this for years now, finishing 2nd and 3rd in the past two years, so it means a lot to them. If you see one of the players, please take a moment to congratulate them.
