Venom (2018) Review
October 15, 2018
Hyped up on my Monster energy drink and chocolate almonds, I entered the theater to watch the movie I longed to see since the first trailer: Venom.
Produced by Sony and MARVEL Studios, this movie was definitely a must-see, and I was not disappointed. Venom entered theaters everywhere on Friday, October 5, blasting us all away with outstanding performances by Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Reid Scott, Scott Haze and Jenny Slate.
In this action-packed film, the audience is drawn into the story of Eddie Brock, a sensational investigatory journalist, and his development with the symbiotic life form, Venom (both acted/voiced by Tom Hardy). Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), founder and head of the corporation Life Foundation, is running experiments regarding the multiple symbiotes he has collected from space, creating unease among the scientists under his command (Jenny Slate).
Brock’s journey is intriguing as he bonds with Venom and overcomes various obstacles of his life, and Tom Hardy does an excellent job in playing the role. His acting is phenomenal and is definitely a spotlight in this movie. Between Brock’s dry sarcasm and Venom’s unusually hilarious commentary, this film is a great one!
Of course, while Tom Hardy’s action scenes are to die for, this isn’t just an action film. There are many difficulties lying in wait, some taking the form of an ex-fiance (Michelle Williams), human experimentation and poverty. Venom has some great world-building in this movie, and the chances of another movie continuing this (possible) series is higher than you would expect! Who wouldn’t want to see a movie starring Carnage? Or maybe the people’s beloved Spiderman?
I would recommend this 4.5/5 starred movie if you’re interested in action movies, or if you enjoy seeing comic book characters on the big screen!
