Myrtle Beach in the Winter

Anna Satterfield, Staff Writer/Media Assistant

Myrtle Beach is a town full of beaches and warm weather, making it a popular tourist destination in the summer. However, many people struggle to entertain themselves during the winter, especially the locals who live here year-round. The winter season is actually the best time for locals to explore all the places that our Myrtle Beach area has to offer.

If you are looking for something fun to do with your friends or family on the weekend, there are several attractions in and around Myrtle Beach that are fun for all ages.

  • Ripley’s Aquarium- The aquarium is located at Broadway at the Beach and holds a wide variety of cool sea creatures and interactive experiences. You can touch stingrays, jellyfish, horseshoe crabs, and soon, penguins. From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., adults can get in the aquarium for $34.99, children ages 6-11 can get in for $24.99, and children ages 2-5 can get in for $14.99.
  • Topgolf- This new attraction provides a place for people to hit balls, eat food, hang out, and even have birthday parties. One reservation gets you one bay, which accommodates up to eight guests, allowing six people to play at a time, costing around $15.
  • 810 Billiards & Bowling- These bowling alleys recently made it to Myrtle Beach, complete with food and games, making it another popular venue for birthday parties. Games per person range from $3 to $5, depending on the time, with an additional $3.50 cost for shoe rental.

If you are simply looking for a place to walk around, shop, or grab a bite to eat, Myrtle Beach is full of areas for all activities.

  • Broadway at the Beach- The most popular attraction in South Carolina, Broadway includes rides, souvenir shops, a movie theater, and mini golf. Restaurants such as Johnny Rockets, King Kong, and Wahlburgers are quite popular. Dave and Busters is a fun venue with food and games for people of all ages.
  • Market Common- This is another well-known, outdoor shopping area with stores and restaurants. It is a small community with housing, salons, and gyms. The park and surrounding area provides a venue for several festivals throughout the year, such as the Dragon Boat Races and the Farmers Market. Savannah’s Playground is also a favorite area for children and their parents.
  • The Boardwalk- This oceanfront strip includes beach access, all sorts of hotels, the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel, and more. Go grab a bite to eat at the Tiki Bar, shop around at the Gay Dolphin, or test your skills at the Myrtle Beach Escape Room.

While there are many choices of things to do here when the temperature changes, many people have their own ideas of winter fun. Some of our juniors shared their favorite places. Lauren Frasier enjoys going to the aquarium, while Dana Shadoan likes the weather because it is perfect for softball conditioning. On the other hand, Angela Le would rather just stay inside and watch Netflix.

Whether you choose to stay home or go out, there is much to do in Myrtle Beach in the winter.
