Teenagers and young adults alike can find a fascination within the pages of a romance novel especially when they are made into films. Books like “The Notebook, “The Fault In Our Stars,” “After,” and the “Twilight” series can invoke a sense of curiosity, a deeper escape into the novel, and an increased interest in the places where the movies were filmed when created into films. Many of the movie sets used real-world towns and houses which when brought together can make the best road trip!

  1. “Twilight”- Portland, Oregon

Set in the town “Forks, Washington” many “Twilight” fans frequent Indian beach in Oregon, also known as “La Push Beach.” At the beach, Bella Swan first finds out the truth about Edward Cullen. Another fan favorite to visit on your twilight journey would be Bella’s house, located in St. Helens, Oregon. Travelers also have the ability to stay in the movie famous house through Airbnb for $400 per night.

  1. “The Notebook”- Charleston, South Carolina

Based around 1946 in Charleston, South Carolina, “The Notebook” film features many places that many are able to still visit today.  Throughout the movie, many scenes feature the iconic house renovated by main character Noah Calhoun. The majestic house is located on Martins Point Plantation with tours available throughout the day. Noah and Allie’s boat trip through the marsh can be recreated at the film site of 3030 Cypress Gardens Road without the geese, as they were brought in just for the movie.

  1. “The Fault in Our Stars”- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Primarily filmed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a large majority of the film locations are still vital parts of the community. Hazel and Gus’ first meeting site at the local cancer support group can be found at St Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1066 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon. If you would like to embark on a more international trip, the famous bench where Gus tells Hazel that his cancer is terminal is located in Amsterdam in front of Leidsegracht 4, where Herengracht and Leidsegracht canals meet. Ironically the bench mysteriously disappeared in 2014 and then was returned under the cloak of night a month later.

  1. “After”- Atlanta, Georgia

Filmed mostly in Atlanta, Georgia featured places like the aquarium, the lake, and Tessa’s college can all be explored throughout the city. The aquarium featured on Hardin and Tessa’s date, housing the only whale sharks in the United States, can be found at the Georgia Aquarium. The infamous lake scene with Tessa and Hardin was filmed at Berkeley Lake in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Throughout Tessa’s college experience, the filming took place at Emory University, although the book was set in Seattle.

No matter what age, an escape into the world of romance with its magical settings may be just what you need!
