Paris Fashion Week
October 20, 2022
Throughout the year hundreds of fashion shows occur worldwide. Some of the most famous shows include Paris, Milan, London, and New York. The shows typically last a week and attract a large audience, including the press, top models, and celebrities.
During the week of Sept. 26 – Oct. 4, 2022, the Paris Fashion Show dabbled with technological innovation as well as Kayne West and the white lives matter controversy. The show was held at Musee des Arts et Metiers in Paris, France. The talk of the show started when American supermodel Bella Hadid showcased her spray-on Coperni dress. The dress, created by Mandel Torres, was sprayed onto the nearly nude body of Hadid and transformed into a “jersey-like” material that had no seams or physical fabric.
Vogue commented, “The designers were serious about playing with historical proportions, from exaggerated hips by way of padding on tailored wool trousers, to the excessive draping of fabric on miniskirts, as well as leather jackets that can be cleverly tied around the waist to resemble the 19th-century bustle.”
The dress, while it is not being sold, was supposed to push the limits of the fashion industry as well as technological advances.Fabrican, the material used for the dress, is a spray-on fabric made up of synthetic fibers and has more uses than just fashion. Fabrican can be used for health care, with the creation of face masks and bandages.
Carolina Forest High School senior, Jenna Graziano shared, “My mouth dropped to the floor when I saw the innovation of the spray-on dress; Bella Hadid was totally gorgeous.”
Kayne West also made an appearance showcasing his new line after terminating his long-term contracts with Gap and Adidas. The controversy emerged when West strutted down the runway in a white “White Lives Matter” t-shirt followed by models and conservative Candace Owens. West, along with many other large brands, also came into the controversial spotlight in 2018 with his comments about slavery in early America.
The Paris Fashion Show, while it showcased controversies and new technological innovations proved to be one of the best of the year attracting over 700,000 people over the course of the week.
