Setting To States!

It’s every team’s goal to win as many games and perform the best that they can. Carolina Forest Men’s Varsity Volleyball team did exactly that. Exceeding the expectations for their first year as a competitive team, the boys had an undefeated season, became Regional Champions, won the first round of playoffs and won the Lower State Championship game.

The men’s volleyball team started out as a club here at CF in the school year 2021-2022. After popular demand and the astonishing talent that the boys had performed, a competitive team was created. This inspired other schools around our area to form a men’s volleyball team as well.

Tyler Jones, senior captain, stated, “The season started off really well with the amount of returning players from the club team in the spring. We were able to build on that with the new players contributing to the team when it was needed most.”

Volleyball is a team sport, not an individual one. Having a group of players who can work together and perform well is the most important factor in being successful and winning. Our guys had the ability to maintain their relationships with each other on and off the court.

Jones added, “Toward the end of the season, the team felt unbeatable. We felt that we could go all the way to the States and possibly win. We did end up making it all the way but fell short in the championship game with a loss that was fought hard. It was a great experience for the team to make it all the way to the States for it being our first competitive year.”

The guys had unremarkable accomplishments throughout the season.

Blake Goodwin, a junior, is listed to have 3.2 kills per set. He was given the title, “Region Player of The Year.” Those are extremely impressive stats for a volleyball player.

Goodwin shared,” Our first season as a competitive team went really good. Our team pulled through and had a lot of wins. I’m really excited to come back next season and win it all.”

Good luck next season, Panthers. Don’t forget to block, spike and kill!
