As a student, do you ever find yourself saying, “Why would I ever join a school club? That’s such a waste of time.” Many students don’t realize the benefits of being more involved during their time at school.
School clubs, sports, and activities have so much more to offer students than what you may first come to believe. Commonly, it seems that those who participate in school extracurricular activities feel they gain long-lasting friendships, important knowledge, and skills for the future that make it worth their time.
Students were given a survey about how they feel they benefit from being involved with school.
Hailey Ellisor is a sophomore and member of the Carolina Forest High School Dance Team.
Ellisor shared, “I feel like I benefit because the new people I meet on the team shape me to become better as both a dancer and person. I’m glad I made so many long-lasting friendships through the team.”
Clubs, sports, and various school activities are great ways to connect with new people and make long-lasting friendships like Ellisor did. If you’re shy and have a hard time meeting new people, this may be a good opportunity for you to reach out and make some new friends!
While many students stated that friendships were a great benefit, others said that the knowledge and skills they gained were the best part of being involved.
Gianna Ferrucci is a junior and part of CFHS’s Student Council.
“I benefit as I learn important leadership skills and gain knowledge that will help me later on in life and the future to come,” stated Ferrucci.
When participating or helping out in different clubs and extracurriculars, students can learn all sorts of skills that may prove to be useful when they’re older. You never know what information you might need in the future, so it’s important that students take in whatever knowledge they can from these clubs and experiences!
Overall, there are many benefits to being involved in school, though is it really worth a student’s time?
Grant Monday is a sophomore and member of our CFHS Track and Cross-Country team.
Monday shared, “It was worth it, but too much involvement can be overwhelming. Students should participate in stuff they are actually passionate about.”
At CFHS, we have such a wide variety of organizations for students. The following clubs are some of the few at CFHS: Art Club, Creative Writing Club, Student Council, Anchor Club, American Sign Language, and more!
