Marching bands play a vital role in high schools by supporting football games and enhancing school spirit. Their performances energize the student section, creating an exciting atmosphere. Participating in the marching band also fosters friendships among students from different backgrounds. Our phenomenal Carolina Forest Marching Band consists of approximately 200 members who practice around 20 hours weekly. They dedicate their after-school time daily to rehearse for football games and competitions.
On October 28, 2024, Carolina Forest hosted the annual Marching Band Extravaganza for Horry County Schools. The event featured schools from the county which included Myrtle Beach, Conway, Loris, Socastee, St. James, North Myrtle Beach, Aynor, and Carolina Forest High School.
The Carolina Forest High School Marching Band Drum Majors for the 2024-2025 school year are Aaron Franklin, Christopher Taylor, and Shai Mckenney. The drum majors are responsible for leading practices, conducting music and warmups, and executing the rehearsal schedule. They also work with staff to ensure the band is where they need to be and to use time wisely.
Mady Meitner, a senior at CFHS, states, “My senior year was probably my best year, I had lots of fun! My favorite memory was going to Delaware for a competition and going places with my friends. I have been in band for eight years and marching band for four years. I will miss my directors and friends the most from the band.”
Mark Roddy, the band director, has been at Carolina Forest since 2012. He has spent the last 12 years dedicating his time and hard work to the band.
Roddy states, “I love seeing students accomplish something they could not do the day before. I enjoy watching the learning and growth take place and making beautiful music together.”
Recently, the Carolina Forest High School Band achieved the title of Grand Champions during their last competition of the season at Loris Band Day on November 2, 2024.
