The Dance Team is a newer club that can be found here in The Forest! They are known as “The Pantherettes.” Our school used to have a dance team, but it was expunged. For the 2022-23 school year, Dance I teacher Jennifer Corvino decided to bring back the team due to having a high interest from the students who took her dance class. Coach Claire Alverson is also joining Coach Corvinio in coaching this year!
In the first season, the team was a very small group of girls that consisted of around seven girls, which included sophomore Sierra Wilson, who is still on the team today.
Wilson shared, “Although we were looked down upon by other coaches and fellow students, the team never gave up. We grew our team by multiple members and added another full time coach.”
The dance team is joined by Coach Clarie Alverson, who is a former Coastal Carolina dance team member. Alverson has been involved in dance for 21 years now, and this is her ninth year being involved in coaching. She wanted to begin dancing because her older sister was a dancer, and she wanted to follow in her footsteps.
Alverson shared, “I coach at a studio locally, and many of the girls attend high school here and are on the team. There is a lot of opportunity for growth at Carolina Forest High School, and I can’t wait to watch the team grow and develop.”
The dance team meets two or more times a week after school to work on their dance performance, technique, and conditioning. Performances from the dance team can be watched during all home varsity basketball and football games.
The team is looking for members who demonstrate their talents and passion. They want to continue to grow their members. The team is driven by enthusiasm and success!
The Pantherettes are holding tryouts October 7-9. Tryouts will be 4-5:30 pm. To try out you must have an updated physical. If you have any questions email [email protected].
