Carolina Forest High School is home to several outstanding clubs. One of these includes the Anchor Club. This club is a service-based group that works on school based, as well as community based volunteering. The club gives students the opportunity to express themselves through unique, interesting and impactful community service while also encouraging them to get involved within their town.
Our school’s Anchor Club is sponsored by Laneah Ravn and Gregory Bryson. Luciana Gregorio is the club’s president. Ravn and Bryson are both excited to continue the program in the future.
Ravn shared, “The best part of Anchor Club is our kids! Seeing and working with our students outside of the classroom is a privilege. Watching our kids thrive outside of academia is such a joy that many teachers do not get to experience. They remind me that I can be better, and that I should never stop working to make a positive impact, no matter how small.”
Both sponsors work immensely hard to make sure their students have the opportunities to go out into their communities and meet new people, help provide service, and create relationships that will last for a lifetime.
Bryson stated, “My two favorite aspects of co-sponsoring this club is to see service magnified in the area, and the ability to build relationships with the club members and community. “
Recently, the Anchor Club has taken part in many community service projects. In October the team volunteered at the Myrtle Beach half marathon. They were stationed near the beach and passed out water cups to the runners. They also volunteered at the school’s powderpuff game by picking up trash around the football field. Another service project they have done recently is volunteering at the Indigo Carolina Forest Retirement Community. While there, the members of Anchor participated in rounds of bingo and helped aid a nutcracker tea party for the residents. It was truly an amazing experience.
Sophomore Destiny Greene, a member of the club, shared, “I had so much fun going to Indigo. Everyone was so nice and it was a blessing to be able to hear their life stories and experiences.”
It is important for high school students to get involved in community service groups around their school. Not only does it provide you with skills used in the workplace, such as communication, teamwork, problem solving, project planning, and task management, but also provides students the ability to log service hours on applications for colleges, honors societies, and jobs.
This club is one of the many options for those looking to find a sense of community while also performing service regularly. To join the club, there is an application fee of $15. Plan on joining such a dedicated club that services our community.
