“K-Pop Demon Hunters” has become a global crowd-puller ever since its release on “Netflix,” on June 20, 2025. This movie is an empowering musical with action-packed battles, along with a hidden romance. Rumi, Mira, and Zoey present themselves as a K-pop group named “Huntrix,” but, they’re saving the world with their motivational songs and combating by sealing what’s called “The Honmoon,” dividing the world from an opposite universe of demons.
As the Honmoon is close to being sealed, five intelligent demons come up with an idea to start a K-pop boy band to recruit more souls. People know them as the “Saja Boys,” the new K-pop group that is all the rage. Huntix and Saja Boys advance in continuous battles to seal and break The Honmoon.
Masay Usalma, a movie critic for IMDb, commented, “This was a fun ride. There’s a lot of moments where I was laughing and the animation style reminds me a little of a fluid stop motion. It looks good especially paired with the action and all that bright coloring. It was very nice and not too flashy in the eyes.”
Hailey Ellisor, a sophomore, shared, “For someone who doesn’t typically enjoy animated movies, I thought it was pretty good. The story plot was interesting, very different from other things I have watched, and all the music was pretty good! Before watching it, I have been into K-pop, so I liked seeing them include lightsticks and other K-pop things in the movie.”
Not only is “K-pop Demon Hunters” an action-packed movie, but it also has a musical soundtrack with actual K-pop that is empowering and has been favored by many. The songs in this movie include their own songs, along with sampled songs and artists that have helped out. The soundtrack includes: “How It’s Done,” “Soda Pop,” “Golden,” “Takedown,” “Your Idol,” “Free,” “What It Sounds Like,” along with “Love, Maybe” by MeloMance. The K-pop girl group, TWICE, had assisted with the movie by letting them sample their famous hit, “Strategy.”
“K-pop Demon Hunters” also resembles certain parts in K-pop. They took lightsticks, music, and group concepts into creative work. People all over the world have noticed that Huntrix resembles girl-empowering groups, such as Blackpink, ITZY, and TWICE. The directors chose a more dark, yet enlightening concept for the Saja Boys, favoring BTS, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, Stray Kids, and ATEEZ. Citizens really appreciated mixing the concepts of many favorites and popular groups, especially ATEEZ and TOMORROW X TOGETHER, by combining ATEEZ’s new dark concept from their new album, “In Your Fantasy” and TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s ethereal and upbeat concept. It truly brought other K-pop fans together to share their passions and interests.
“I enjoyed all of the songs, but I would say ‘Free’ or ‘Golden’ were my favorites. The music is K-pop, yet you can definitely tell that they made the music fit to be more geared to an English audience in my opinion. It’s like when a Korean group makes an English album, or songs that are mainly in English,” continued Ellisor.
On a personal note, I believe that “K-pop Demon Hunters” is a great movie. I love how they incorporated actual K-pop concepts into the movie. Coming from someone who enjoys a lot of K-pop, this movie helped its popularity skyrocket even further. I’m glad to see that other people are getting interested in K-pop, it truly brings people all across the globe together. After knowing that the Saja Boys were inspired by ATEEZ, I became hooked on their concepts!
This world-wide sensation has brought many people together, including family, friends, and K-pop fans. It continues to skyrocket the charts on Netflix as its most popular movie of all time.
