Each December, New York City becomes one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world. With its iconic Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, festive Broadway shows, and bustling holiday markets the city offers visitors a unique way to celebrate the season.
For your first stop, a visit to the ICONIC Rockefeller Center is a must. Not just to see the beautiful, dazzling, sparkly lit up tree, but to glide into the skating rink. However, if skating isn’t for you you can sit back and enjoy the show with a cup of hot cocoa or shop until you drop at the nearest stores.
Along with the calmness of all of the beautiful sights and shopping, there is the intense feelings of all of the winter season NBA basketball games games played by the New York Knicks.
Eli Fondren, a junior who went to New York City during Thanksgiving, stated, “My favorite thing about NYC was watching a rival NBA game between the Knicks vs Jets with my dad.”
I had an amazing chance to go to New York and see the Rockefeller Center tree. It was so amazing to see in person; I thought I was going to get famous because I took so many pictures in front of it! However, let’s not forget about the many other things to do in New York.
The amazing Rockettes have been performing since December 1933! They perform their annual Rockettes Christmas Spectacular that is a 90-minute musical created by Mark Waldrop.
Broadway in NYC is the heartbeat of American Theater, where world-class plays bring unforgettable stories to life under the lights of Times Square. Some of the most popular Broadway plays this 2025 season are Disney’s “The Lion King” and “Aladdin,” along with “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” and “Wicked.”
Ann Twigg, one of our CFHS teachers, commented, “My two daughters grew up reading the Harry Potter series. All three of us read the books at the same time. So, when they found out that Tom Felton was reprising his Draco role in “Harry Potter and The Cursed Child” on Broadway, I decided to take them for a NYC weekend trip as their Christmas present a few weeks ago. I knew the play was going to be great, but it by far exceeded my expectations. Being there to experience all the holiday festivities added to the excitement of the trip. I look forward to going back again.”
If you have never been, put New York City on your bucket list. A visit during the holiday season feels less like a trip and more like stepping into a classic holiday movie and the memories you make will last forever.
