Carolina Forest has many clubs for our students to apply for which matches their interests. Clubs help to build friendship, leadership, and community within the students. One of these organizations is the Anchor Club, which is based on community service and also for students to develop leadership skills and form bonds with their peers. They just recently had their food bank, and it was a huge success!
The teacher sponsors for our CFHS Anchor Club are Leneah Ravn, Gregory Bryson, Andrea Rickman, Christa Maxwell, and Wendy Schultheis.
“Anchor Club is a youth-focused organization, sponsored by Conway’s Pilot Club, that emphasizes community service, leadership, and friendship. Our main purpose is to encourage student leadership in organizing and serving local service projects both in the community and at CFHS.” shared Bryson
Bryson also commented on some recent projects Anchor Club has been working on over the course of the year and what they have going on at school.
“Some projects over the past year have been serving at the Myrtle Beach mini-marathon, distributing food at a local food bank, spending time with the residents at a local nursing home, deconstructing a historical building, and volunteering at a local animal shelter. At school, students have served in concession stands, cleaned the school grounds, and participated in our “Thankful Thursdays” to recognize CF’s custodians, counselors, cafeteria workers and others. As part of the effort, students get credit for their service hours that count toward various honor societies at CF,” shared Bryson.
Anchor Club meets in the media center once a month and the dates are announced in their Schoology page! If you are interested in joining or want to know more information, contact one of the student leaders. President: Rocky Volpe, Vice President: Amirah Gordy, Secretary: Audrina Acosta, Treasurer: Blake Gross, and Media: Lauryn Interdonati.
Rocky Volpe, the president, commented, “I joined Anchor Club because of my sister originally. She was the president of the club, and I now follow in her footsteps. I am so glad I joined the club because of the experience and the service hours I have gained.”
Volpe also shared why he believes that students should join clubs offered by our school and what students gain from them.
“I think it is important for students to join a club because it increases their social skills and it brings more involvement into the school community and helps you in the long run.”
Through service, leadership, and friendship, our CFHS Anchor Club empowers students to make a positive impact on our school and community. This impact will stay with them for the rest of their lives and will continue to impact them as they grow. If you are interested in joining or learning more about Anchor Club, contact one of the student members or one of the teacher sponsors.
