All About Chrysalis

During the weekend of October 12-14, I attended Coastal Carolina Chrysalis. I was sponsored by Abby Kerwin, a senior here at Carolina Forest High School.

“Chrysalis was such an eye opening and indescribable weekend for me, and I wanted to share that with Ashtyn,” said Kerwin.

Chrysalis is a three-day weekend retreat focused on spiritual renewal and formation for teenagers. The approach of the nondenominational program is centered on New Testament Christianity and the model of Christ’s servanthood as a lifestyle. Each participant begins the weekend as a caterpillar, then transitions into the chrysalis stage, ending the retreat in the enlightenment of being reborn into a beautiful butterfly. Each weekend retreat is referred to as  a “flight” because at the end of the Chrysalis when you become a vibrant butterfly, you fly with Christ.

My experience at Chrysalis impacted me very much. Growing up in a Christian household, I always knew that Jesus was my Lord and Savior. Chrysalis brought an entire new light to that for me. It opened up so many closed doors, answered an abundant number of questions, and changed my entire perspective of what being a Christian means. The love of new friends, old friends, and everyone in between, especially Jesus, was incredible. It was the most overwhelming, loving experience. I am still in awe. Chrysalis was a weekend full of grace that will forever hold a special place in my heart.

There are a few more fellow Panthers who also attended Chrysalis. Not only did Kerwin sponsor me, but she also sponsored junior Emma Hamilton.

“Chrysalis was one of the best experiences of my life. I learned not only how much Jesus loves me but also the unconditional love of so many others. I encourage anyone who is interested to please come and talk to me and sign up because it is truly amazing,” explained Hamilton.

Ben and Tyler Davis, senior twin brothers, also attended Chrysalis last year on the boys’ flight.

“Chrysalis was one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me. The overall experience helped me grow my relationship with God a lot,” Tyler Davis shared.

I can honestly say that attending Chrysalis was the best decision I have ever made. If you ever get the chance to attend you do not want to miss it. If you are interested in going this spring, please contact me.
