Winter Sports Are Back!

It’s that time of year again the holidays are right around the corner but so are sports. In the Forest, most of our Winter Sports have started back in action. We have three sports going on right now: Wrestling, Girls Basketball and Boys Basketball. While there are only three sports, they all have a JV and Varsity team. We are so excited to watch these teams advance on to bigger and better things.

While basketball just started back this week, the boys are coming in hot with a great win over North Myrtle Beach 59-55. Head Coach Dewalt has been coaching her at CF for three years. This group of young and talented boys has had a great start to the season so far.

Senior point guard, two-time varsity player, Robbie Anderson says this is the team to be this year.

Anderson shares, “I expect us to continue to develop mentally and physically so we can continue to win games and overcome adversity. “

Girl’s basketball also started up and running this week having a tough battle against North Myrtle Beach. The girls had a great pre-season winning the Green Sea Floyds Turkey Shootout. Head Coach Stacey Hughes hopes that the work these girls have put in in the preseason will carry on into the season with much success for the program. The girls as a team have come together to work as a team by attending two camps and many open gyms.

Senior Anaya Thompkins says, “ I have prepared myself for this season with long hours of dedication and prayer for success for the upcoming season.”

Our last sport that is happening this winter season is wrestling. With two returning state champions and a returning state qualifier, there is no stopping this team. Currently our Panthers are ranked 3rd in the lower state and 7th overall. Our wrestling program has been taken under its wing by Matthew Perdue. Coach Perdue teaches Government and Economics at CFHS. He has been coach in South Carolina for five years and seven years overall.

Perdue adds, “ I have a great feeling about this season. This team is possibly the deepest lineup we’ve had. We have expanded to our largest roster in many years, and we have a great “pack” mentality. I think this roster will go down as one of our best. We are currently 2-0, and I don’t see us slowing down anytime soon.”

We are so excited to see our Winter sports succeed and achieve their goals. Keep checking our athletic calendar that is updated weekly to be able to attend one of our winter sports matches or games.
