In recent years, Disney has leaned heavily into remaking its beloved animated classics into live-action films, a trend that has sparked both excitement and criticism. Despite the magic that is associated with Disney, many feel that the live-action films lack the charm and originality. It’s time to question whether these remakes are truly honoring the legacy of Disney storytelling.
Many of our favorite Disney films have been re-made during the past ten years, such as “Cinderella,” “Beauty and the Beast,” ” The Lion King,” “Alladdin,” “Mulan,” Pinnocchio,” and “The Little Mermaid.” The most recent film is “Snow White.” “Lilo & Stitch” is going to be one of major films for this Memorial Day.
Amy Perry, an English teacher here at Carolina Forest, loves anything and everything Disney.
Perry commented, “Whenever they re-make these movies they never capture the full essence of the original version. The thing about the original is that they are just magical. The themes are universal, the characters are relatable, and the stories always pull at your heartstrings.”
Disney’s live-action remakes have collectively grossed over $10 billion worldwide at the box office. The highest-earning film was “The Lion King” from 2019 with $1.66 billion.
Bryanna Taylor is a freshman here at CF, and she doesn’t like the fact that they are remaking movies.
Taylor shared, “ Disney originals are supposed to be special in their own way and do not have the same qualities when they are remade.”
Disney has many well-known movies and shows. So if these Disney productions are well-known and very popular, why would they re-make them?
In my opinion, I feel that Disney should stop re-making these movies. Disney characters are original and they should stay how they were made. When they are re-made they get changed around and don’t have the same feelings and emotions.
Some argue that these films allow Disney to reintroduce classic stories to new generations while capitalizing on the enduring appeal of its memorable characters.
No matter which “side” we choose, there is no doubt that Disney films will forever stay in our hearts.
