The Fall Festival on October 22 featured some exciting events, including Literacy Under the Lights and our annual Powder Puff game. There were special performances from the CFHS Band and the Chantecleer Girls as well. It was a night filled with laughter and smiles, bringing our community together for a night of fun.
Literacy Under the Lights was an event to have CFHS and Coastal Carolina University athletes read to our elementary students. It was a heartfelt celebration that not only promoted literacy and reading within our Carolina Forest community but also a moment for people of all ages to connect with each other.
Students from elementary schools throughout Horry County were invited to CFHS to participate. If they brought their own book, they received free admission to the event. They all gathered on the football field with their books to read and listen to stories.
Junior Kade Taylor, was one of our readers. He is a part of the Varsity Boys Basketball team.
“It was just a really fun experience to share my love of reading with others and see their own enjoyment of books grow as well.”
The Literacy Under the Lights event began at 5:30 and was followed by other events and fun, such as food vendors, club booths that promoted literacy, and our annual Powder Puff Game.
The Fall Festival/Powder Puff night held many booths from clubs and food truck vendors to provide entertainment for the night. Clubs such as DECA and the Pantherettes had games for children and adults to participate in. There was also a booth that had face painting.
The Fall Festival was sponsored by FCA and Student Council to put on a great night of fun and tasty foods.
Victoria Moore is a geometry teacher at CFHS and was a key person in the organization of the night. She believes the best part of the night was the Powder Puff games.
“Getting to watch our football players coach our female students is always fun. The student coaches always put their own spin on becoming a coach and our female players enjoy being on the field.”
The Powder Puff games began at 6:00 p.m. The first game was the freshman team against the junior team. The junior team won and proceeded to the championship. The second game was the sophomore team and the senior team, where the senior team went to the championship.
In the championship game, both teams played their hardest, but the juniors won. The final score was 12-0 juniors. They rallied together after the game for photos and their trophy presented by Gaye Driggers.
Junior Amirah Gordy was on the winning Powder Puff team and shared some insight into the preparations and gameplan for their road to victory.
“Making sure to go to all the practices and help out my teammates so there was no confusion on the field was crucial to our success. My gameplan was to just swat the balls away from the offense and follow the ball when the opposing team runs it.
CFHS celebrate Homecoming Week with spirit and pride. There’s no other school that builds the community that CFHS does. The night full of fun events for people of all ages to enjoy was nothing short of amazing. The reading, games, and food were all a big hit, and we can’t wait to see what next year has in store.
