With the huge and growing population of Carolina Forest, going to the same restaurants over and over can get tiring. There is now a new breakfast and lunch spot called The Toasted Yolk. Near Tanger Outlets on 501, the cute brunch restaurant can be seen from a mile away with the bright green coloring and playful egg theme.
As someone who eats out about once or twice a week, I am always looking for a new place to try. With its grand opening on Feb. 12, The Toasted Yolk was at the top of my “to try” list.
On Saturday, Feb. 24, my boyfriend and I decided to go to brunch. Since Saturday brunches are usually very busy around the beach area, we figured it would be best to try and get on the waitlist early. The website was extremely easy to navigate and even told you the estimated wait time when you joined. We were estimated to wait about 12-22 minutes, but upon arrival, the host informed us that it would be an additional 20-30 minutes for our table. Thankfully, I did receive the text that my table was ready roughly ten minutes later. So, in total, we waited about 25-30 minutes for a table. All in all, not terrible for a Saturday brunch.
The inside was decorated nicely and appeared to be really clean. They sat us at a high top, which I wasn’t a fan of, especially after seeing they had outdoor seating. If offered, I would have loved to have sat out with the nice weather recently. We were greeted almost right away by a very sweet server, and our food order was placed in ten minutes with quick and great service.
There were so many different options for both breakfast and lunch and which were all very affordable. My boyfriend ordered the granola apple French toast with a side of hash brown casserole that was an additional charge. I got a chicken sandwich with a shrimp cilantro salad and an additional side of sweet potato fries. Originally, I received the wrong chicken sandwich. It took about 15 minutes for the right one to come out, which was upsetting because by that time, I wasn’t hungry anymore. I had high hopes for the sweet potato fries since they are one of my favorite sides but I was disappointed. For me, they were just a bit too overcooked and almost hard. On the other hand, the shrimp cilantro salad was amazing. I recommend it if you want something refreshing; it is also quite filling for a side salad.
Overall, I would say that The Toasted Yolk has some good hidden gems if you are looking for breakfast. The breakfast options on the menu looked amazing; the granola apple French toast we ordered was delicious. The lunch options were more generic compared to other places I have been to. If you are going for breakfast, I highly recommend it. If you are going for lunch, I personally feel there are some better places in CF or even at the beach where you could find some better options.
Overall, if you are looking for a new breakfast and lunch spot in Carolina Forest, The Toasted Yolk is worth a try.
