Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is by far one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state, thanks to its endless list of fun activities, restaurants, and above all, the beach!

Meadow Myers, a junior, has been living at the beach for 17 years.

“My favorite thing about living at the beach is having ability to just relax on the beach after a stressful week. I am also less prone to sunburn because I have spent so much time tanning by the water,” Myers shared.

According to, it is estimated that 14 million people visit Myrtle Beach every single year. The current population of Myrtle Beach is roughly around 408,000, which is a 3.82% increase from 2021.

Even though there are so many people who are new to the Myrtle Beach area, there are also hundreds of thousands of people who have been in Myrtle Beach throughout their entire lives. I personally was born and raised here in Myrtle Beach, and I could not ask for a better home. I love knowing that the gorgeous Atlantic Ocean is just a quick car ride away!

Faith Heller, a sophomore, moved here two and a half years ago from Vonore, Tennessee.

Heller stated, “My favorite thing about living at the beach is all of the different tourist things to do around town, unlimited places to hang out with friends, shop and eat. Also, moving here led me to find a church that would help me ultimately find God and begin a true relationship with the Lord.”

Not only can living by the beach be a positive factor for making fun times and memories, but it can also be a positive factor on the health side of things as well. According to, the iodine, salt, and magnesium present in sea air can reduce the symptoms of asthma, promote respiratory health, improve allergies and skin problems and stimulate the immune system.

Giana Volpe, a junior, has lived at the beach her whole life.

Volpe shared, “My favorite thing about living by the beach is the warm weather. Living by the beach has given me the opportunity to go to the beach whenever I want, and it gives me a good place to hang out with friends.”

Due to the health benefits and mysterious beauty of the ocean, living at the beach definitely has its advantages. We are blessed to have the soft sand, blue waters and plenty of sunshine at our fingertips!
